PBI has high heat resistance for a plastic material, with a deflection temperature under load of 435°C. It also has excellent electric and mechanical characteristics. PBI is used as a substitute for conventional plastics, or as an alternative material to carbon, carbon-carbon composite, ceramics, and metals.
