PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) PEEK is a trademark of Victrex plc.

Outline of material

PEEK is a heat-resistant thermoplastic with excellent mechanical characteristics. It also has excellent fatigue, impact, and creep resistance. PEEK can be used with chemicals except for concentrated sulfuric acid, and additionally has low metal ion elution and gas discharge properties. It can also be welded.

Characteristics

Heat characteristics

  • Continuous service temperature of 240°C *Melting point: 334°C
  • Deflection temperature under load of 140°C
  • Continuous service temperature of 200 - 260°C in hot water
  • Can be used in pressurized hot water and steam up to 300°C

Mechanical characteristics

  • Excellent fatigue resistance
  • Wear resistance on par with that of polyimide
  • Excellent impact resistance

Chemical characteristics

  • Does not dissolve in chemicals other than concentrated sulfuric acid
  • Low outgassing and metal ion elution

Mechanical workability

  • Machinable
  • Weldable
  • Bendable
