Introducing Sumika Super S1000, an engineering plastic from Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.

Outline of material

The Sumika Super S1000 series is a wholly aromatic polyester that boasts excellent heat resistance. It does not melt or become deformed even at 400°C, and has a continuous service temperature of 260°C. Sumika Super has low cutting resistance and does not melt easily, making it a suitable material for precision processing.

  • Excellent dimensional stability with low coefficient of linear thermal expansion

Mechanical characteristics

  • Excellent mechanical characteristics in high temperatures
  • Low creep

Chemical characteristics

  • Few impurities such as metal ions
  • Lower water absorption compared with polyimide
  • Dimensional change is limited even in water
  • Not affected by organic solvents or oil
  • Flame resistant. Principal ingredient of gas emitted when burned is carbon dioxide

Mechanical workability

  • Produces few burrs when machined, making it suitable for microfabrication
  • Does not melt easily when machined, resulting in very clean cut surfaces
